About Chapeltown Bolton

The village is dominated by St Annes Church, a beautiful stone building dedicated to St Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary. Today the church provides a wonderful place of worship.

The Chetham Arms is the one remaining public house in Chapeltown, Bolton on High Street and serves good pub grub, traditional beers and is a dog friendly place where all are welcome. Opposite is Tower Street which leads down to two football pitches including the second oldest football pitch in England.  This pitch dates back to the late 1830’s where local history records show that five of the England Football Team lived on High Street and used the Chetham Arms to get changed.

Turton Tower is very close by and must be mentioned as a wonderful historic medieval country house set in private grounds located off Chapeltown Road. The house is open to the public at a nominal cost and the tower kitchen and grounds are open all year round and free of charge to explore.

Chapeltown, Bolton used to have its own railway station but this is now closed, the old mill was knocked down and upmarket designer homes were built on site. Locals can now access a railway station in as little as a mile away at Bromley Cross or Entwistle on the Manchester to Blackburn line, which passes through Bolton.
